Vacants - New 'The Wire' mix

It has been a long time coming but at last it is here. The new mix in the Wire inspired series. Each mix takes a character from the show. We have done; Omar, Bunk (The), Slim Charles, Bubbs, Bodie and Stringer Bell so who is next?

This is the first time I have used two characters but these guys are such a double act that they are always together. Snoop and Chris.

Muscle for Marlo is busy work and these two are more than up to the task. Bodies were bringing heat on all the Baltimore dealers so Marlo decided to make sure there were no bodies.

'Vacants' is mostly new stuff that I am feeling with a few old joints I have rediscovered.

Enjoy.

Dr Octagon - Moose Bumps

Black Elvis

For those who don’t know Dr Octagon, you need to book an appointment. He can cure all your wack hip hop ills. There are a few Doctors out there, Dre. The DOC. Doctor Doctor and the medics. Dr Octagon is the only one for you to book an appointment with if you are sick from all this wack shit that is out there these days.

Kool Keith + Dan The Automator + Q Bert = Oh Shit! It’s quite a simple equation for those who are not so keen on Maths. Sometimes everything comes together perfectly. Like In PE’s first 3 albums or the Liverpool team of the 80’s. If this album was a sandwich, Dan would be the bread. Big hunks of fat bread with ill crispy crusts. Kool Keith would be the meat, sick sausage meat that has been through the grinder a few times too many and has come out all messed up. Q-Bert is the hot sauce that burns your mouth. It’s a great sandwich. But better than a sandwich you can eat it again and again.

Dan and the Dr

Dr. Octagonecologyst is the title to the album and without giving away all the fun it is kina sick.

‘A Visit To The Gynecologyst’ is funny as hell. Soon you will be up to summer squash!
‘Girl Let Me Touch You’ is a love song of epic proportions to put any LL Cool J join t to shame. Girls love that one.

For me the cuts by Q Bert really made this album amazing and he really kills it on the scratches on a few tracks but the cuts at the end of ‘Blue Flowers’ and on ‘Bear Witness’ are some of my favorite cuts in Hip Hop!

Q-Bert

Some dope lyrics.

‘Commercial rap's in the grave, stuff on disc that's very wack
that you saved, you think it's good won't go platinum
or even turn wood, sell the cassette
Your homey's tape deck gets wet’
– 3000

‘Armed with seven rounds of space doo-doo pistols’ – Earth People

‘I program one and go to Earth through the fax machine
My number's Seven-Oh-Nine Seven-Five-Five Six-E-L-Three
Computer File: Nine-Three
’ – Earth People

‘It's totally raining green’ – Blue Flowers

‘It's morning 7 o'clock you at my clinic
it's me your orthopedic gynecologyst’
– Girl Let Me Touch You

Enjoy. Some treats here.

DOOM Lyrics 1

As you might well know, we are big fans of DOOM. What rapnerd in his right mind doesn't like a rapper who makes star trek references and talks about Genie Garofalo? Not us.

So what would be fun? Yes, you guessed it. We are gonna go through some DOOM albums and pull out some of our favorite lyrics. Not all our favorites as that would be too much and we never do too much. So to start us off I have looked at the Dangerdoom album - 'Mouse In The Mask' and have picked some of my favorite lines.

The idea being that then you can add your favorite lyrics that did not get mentioned.

Danger Doom - The Mouse in the Mask

“Chew a MC like El Chupa Nibre
Digest a group and sell the poop on eBay”
- El Chupa Nibre

“Rappers suck, when they spit I doubt 'em
The crap they sing about you'll wanna slap the {fuckin shit} out 'em
” - El Chupa Nibre

"Scared of a bunch of water, then get out the rain
Order a rapper for lunch and spit out the chain”
- Sofa King

“This was when the mask was brand spanking new
Before it got rusted from drinking all the brew
[Sniff] Stankin' too, pew”
- Sofa King

“One two for me G, cut the cranky attitude
Wet 'em like a handkerchief, or a stanky fatter dude”
- The Mask

“Aiy! If I may interject
Rap these days is like a pain up in the neck
Cornier and phonier than a play fight
Take two of these and don't phone me on the late night”
- Benzie Box

“And since when lyrical skills had to do with killin a cat?
What type of chitlins is that?”
- Old School

“Shrink said he thinks he believe he could fly
Spread his wings and flap like a goose
He'll show you how to do it if you help him get the straps loose”
- Basket Case

“So now they got me down here near the dungeon
Nurses all arguin' over who's to do the spongin”
- Basket Case

“Even if it's crap, mind your own business
They raps ain't got no gift like a lonely Christmas”
- No Names

“The mirror shine reflect colors like your CD's
Show love to others, we all brothers like the Bee Gees”
- No Names

“Come clean, a bunch of dumb mean cream puffs
A keen drum machine buff, who fiends for more green stuff”
- Crosshairs

“A true nerd who messed with new words since Boggle
... And used slang in Scrabble”
- Mince Meat

“Welcome to the show
Remember whatever you do, do not boo the flow”
- Mince Meat

“Sounded like froggy, sip the groggiest of potions
Be up in the party with the foggiest of notions”
- Mince Meat

“Until they head hurts - when it come to wreck
Crews is like them dudes in red shirts off Star Trek”
- Space Ho’s

“Then gave him a cold shoulder for a hour
And told him take a gold shower, for fakin funk, soul power
... stocky, short and cocky
Looked like Apollo Creed after he fought with Rocky”
- Bada Bing

“Called up my lady, told her baby it's slim
Make me up a margarita I need to take a swim
Tell them kids remember school - if they let 'em out, cool
But get the hell from out the pool”
- Bada Bing

The "legend to little weird white kids"

"People say I'm a disgrace to the human race
I love overweight women when they sit on my face"

R.A. The Rugged Man. Seriously, how can you not love the guy.

If you've found us, you've heard the stories & you already know that "every record label sucks diiiiick".

What you might not know is that R.A. used to drop jew-elz for the now defunct "Mass Appeal" magazine. Here are some of the educational pieces he authored & accompanying pics resurrected today for your reading pleasure. I scanned 'em a while ago so don't have issue #s or anything other info, all I can tell you is that they came from a couple different issues. Grab all of 'em here.

I also got a couple of his radio appearances for your edification. The first one I came across at http://schnooklynzoo.blogspot.com/ and it's Prince Paul's satellite radio jam, "Da Ill Out Show". R.A. is there for most of the 2-hour show themed around songs of love & hate. Get it:

Ill Out Show Pt. 1

Ill Out Show Pt. 2

R.A. also made a long appearance on DJ Eclipse's Rap Is Outta Control show in November 09 that is well worth a listen.

Go pick up "Legendary Classics Vol. 1" and support an American Lowlife.

Guess who just figured out an easy way to rip his old mixtapes?

Aces International

Eek-A-Mouse. "Shall I style ya?"

Now I know this is the rapnerds blog. But, I am gonna drop something that is a little different. Today is my brothers birthday and in his honour I will give you one of my favorite reggae albums ever. This is Aces International, a live session featuring Eek-A-Mouse, Yellowman, Fathead, Little John, Toyan, Welton Ire, Buro and Billy Boyo. This session was recorded live and features some truly memorable stuff from all the artists but for me Eek-A-Mouse and Yellowman killed it on this recording. The reaction of the crowd to the big tunes as they drop is amazing.

Yellowman "Oh Lord it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way"

Recorded in 1982 in Kingston Jamaica this album has been one of my favorites of all time.

Aces International.

40 Degree Day

The latest of my 'The Wire' mixes is out! 40 Degree Day stars our favorite businessman. Stringer Bell. I always liked him when I found out the actor was from the UK. His cold and calculated approach to the game made him the perfect partner to Avon who bled red rather than String's green. The two of them built a huge empire and when Avon got sent down, String ran the show.

Without delay here is 40 Degree Day.

40 Degree Day
  1. Two Sisters of Mystery - Mandrill
  2. By The Time I Get To Arizona - Public Enemy
  3. Angels - Lupe Fiasco Ft Reakwon, Red Cafe

Premier Interview

Came across this short but great interview with Primo by Vibe magazine today.

If you've been even half following the bullshit surrounding Gang Starr and that "Super Producer" who shall remain nameless, this is a good morale booster.

As long as there's no hoes.............

14 - I never sleep. I always peep. Rhymes creep.............

15 - Take two and pass so we can all get blunted
Don't smoke ciggarettes.............

16 - Glance per chance, watch GangStarr perfect
And dance your pants like champs.............

17 - The meaning of the name GangStarr, well I'll tell ya
It means.............

18 - And you will find that this perspective is best, check it out.............

19 - Insistin they come off, I let 'em get some off
Then come back wit drum tracks.............

20 - So jet to the rear and you better just follow.............

LEO37 - Icarus

A good friend from Taiwan named LEO37 who has been doing lots of dope things for Hip Hop in Taiwan is releasing his new single. The track is called Icarus and is released on Monday. On this blog we give you all kinds of links to free music. Never to we ask people to pay for things. However, without supporting independent artists this whole Hip Hop thing will love so much will become the domain of big business and we will experience the further watering-down of our culture.
