Well in fact they do now. I have a show every Tuesday night on shining radio in Tainan, Taiwan. 88.1 on the FM dial if you are in the city. However, most of you nerds are not in Tainan anymore (punks that you are).

Tuesday nights 9-11 pm Taiwan time. You are gonna have to work out what that means for you. I am trying to sort out a replay on Thursdays 1-3 pm. Will keep you updated.

I should warn you that there are no turntables in the radio station so I can not do any mixing and cutting and scratching and all that good stuff, it's more just introducing the Taiwanese audience to some of that real Hip Hop and Funk and reggae.

What's An Autotune?

So my new job is kinda a bummer...glad to be working, but some days are rough. One of the most annoying things is the omni-present radio noise; it had been years since I listened to rock radio so the first couple shifts were surprisingly good. After a couple weeks, however, I've started wearing earplugs so I don't have to listen to the same 8 songs all the time. Seriously.

During a particularly brutal shift last week, I was walking into a different area (sometimes people have different stations in different areas) when I thought I heard
some familiar sounding horns. My first thought was "what motherfuckers are sullying this classic?". I was a little annoyed. Then I got closer and heard

I lost my shit and went to tell everybody else, after the song of course, but not one glimmer of recognition. The rest of the shift I kept hoping for more jewels, but all I got was that BEP song that makes me want to kill myself.

Sewing Machine

New mix is done.

Like all my mixes you can expect some dope tunes, hard beats, not quite perfect mixing and cutting as well as tunes you know and some you might not. This time around I decided to add some UK Hip Hop. There are some new joints and some old ones you might have missed.

I don't remember where I heard this first, but I'm always surprised at how many people don't know it. The original is dope, but the addition of De La Soul alongside Da Babees & The Mighty Mos pushes it over the top. Beats & acapella incl.

I uploaded this one just for the Vast Aire joint, but the LoDeck & Zion I joints are nice too, all produced by DJ Ese & Hipsta. Back when the internet was just a baby I searched far and wide for pretty much any mixtapes I could find & I ordered a bunch. A few really sucked, but the Ese & Hipsta tape stood out & I still bump it today. Various Artists - Embedded Studios 12"

Strange and I like it.

The Boogie Monsters have always been a favorite group of mine. In 1993 the amount of good Hip Hop that was coming out was vast. So much good stuff was coming out that some things got a little passed over. The Boogie Monsters never really achieved great success. Their first album has got longevity. I still draw for it and listen to is all the way through, rare with Hip Hop albums these days.

What is it about the Monsters that I like so much? Hmmm, not really sure. It's not as hardcore as I tend to go for. There is even singing on quite a few of the tracks! I have never been a fan of singing on Hip Hop tracks. There is not a heavy DJ presence on the album, not much cutting. The music is more melodical than I usually go for. Quite busy and multi layered tracks. It has a strong Christian message, not something I look for in a great LP. So, Why do I like it?

The beats are still dope. The lyrics are great. Good enough for me. 'Recognized Thresholds Of Negative Stress' was the first song I heard and was the first single. I love this track still and try to sneak into sets as often as possible and even when it clears the dance floor. "Mark of the Beast' feels a bit like an early Fugees song. But, A real favorite tune is 'Old Man Jacob's Well'. In this one an old child killing psycho's tale of how he kills his latest kid is told from his (Jacob) and the kids points of view. Dark. Very dark but done so well.

Strange is a good way to describe the album but as the song says, 'Strange, and I like it'. At the time it came out I think lots of people thought it was a bit too weird. More still think it's too odd. I like it.

Filth

I have never really been a Police hater. I have had a few run-ins with the police. Nothing serious. I have also had some good experiences with Police where they helped in times of need.

I'm not about to say the only good cop is a dead cop but I have had a fresh look at the nasty side of the Filth. I'd like to say peace to my Homie Ari. This post is dedicated to you.
